Gender Pay Gap In India

Women still occupy the lowest-paid jobs. As of March 2017, men in India were found to be earning 67% more than their female counterparts in several industries. Accenture which did this survey attributed cultural and social issues to be one of the main attributing factors for such a gender pay disparity (Economic Times, 2017).

Helping more women into the workplace – by offering flexible working and support with childcare – is needed to make that happen. Many huge IT companies are already leading the way with its recognition that greater diversity at the top of organisations improves the working environment, boosts productivity, creates efficiency savings and improves brand reputation. Closing the gender pay gap would increase revenue from income tax and would also boost women’s spending power across the wider economy.
